Between May 19 and 23, the Biochar Chile technology program team participated in the Biochar IV International Congress, held in Santa Marta, Colombia. This event is one of the most relevant scientific meetings worldwide on biochar and its applications.
Dr. Cristina Segura, director of the program, presented the advances achieved in the characterization of biochar of agricultural, livestock and agroindustrial origin, with emphasis on its classification as a fertilizer and carbon sink. Dr. Mauricio Flores, director of the projects “Biochar NPK fertilizer” and “Biochar water retainer”, presented the development of a new controlled-release fertilizer.
Both presentations generated great interest from the international community, highlighting Chile’s position in this area and opening opportunities for collaboration with institutions in Brazil, Colombia and Ecuador.
